HP Mini 2140 Netbook PC: Another Atom Baby Laptop

HP launched the HP Mini 1000 with an Intel Atom processor a few months Compaq Laptop Battery back, and it was an instant hit. Now HP tries to capture the netbook market by launching a newer version called the HP Mini 2140 with a brushed metallic chassis and a faster hard drive. Continue reading to find out more.

Looks, Design, Build Quality and Ergonomics Rating

As far as the looks are concerned, HP Mini 2140 carries on the same legacy as its predecessors, the HP Mini 1000 and Hp Mini-Note 2133. It has a beautiful, compact, and majestic design that HP hopes will make you fall in love with it instantly.

But don’t let it fool you with its Laptop Battery small and elegant looks as this mini PC is a workhorse performance-wise. Unlike its former versions it is a bit heavier because of the all-aluminum chassis. The older HP Mini 1000 had a plastic outer casing and felt a bit lighter than the 2140. The solid metallic casing is expected to provide greater strength and durability during mobile use.

The 10.1 inch screen is surrounded by a black molding that runs uniformly around the bright screen. The silver-grey keyboard extends to the edges and is as large as it can be in a netbook. I think this netbook has the largest keyboard of all the netbooks now, and that is going to be its best selling advantage. The user will become comfortable with the keyboard in a short time as the keys are large with little space between them.

The touchpad lies just below the keyboard and is rectangular in shape. HP has made a little change by placing the right-click and left-click buttons on the right and left EVO N600C battery hand side of the touchpad rather than putting them below it. All the keys and control button are well placed and easy to use.

Configuration, Features and Performance Rating

The HP Mini 2140 is intended to be a bit of a workhorse, as is evident by the configuration embedded in a such a small-sized netbook. An Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz processor sits on the Intel 945GSE main board. There are two DDR2 memory slots on the board, and this netbook can have a maximum of 2 GB of RAM which seems enough to run most applications in Windows Vista or Windows XP.

You don’t have to worry about free disk space as HP Mini 2140 has a 160 GB hard drive which seems more than generous looking at the size of this mini PC. You also have the option of an 80 GB SSD if you want a faster drive - if you are willing to compromise on the storage EVO N410c battery capacity.

The standard version of this netbook does not include an optical drive but you can connect one through the external “MultiBay II.” However, there are also two USB 2.0 ports that you can connect to any USB 2.0-compatible device, including a larger capacity external hard drive if you feel short of space or need an optical drive.

Other connectivity options include microphone in and headphone out, one VGA port, and one RJ-45 Ethernet port. This small PC has powerful wireless connectivity EVO N400c battery options that include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0. The 945GSE chipset is an integrated graphics card and high-definition audio card that allows you to play normal games and watch movies with ease. The integrated web camera comes in handy while chatting with your friends or giving an online business presentation. However, a card-reader and a finger-print reader were not included and are deeply missed.

The HP Mini 2140 performed quite well as as daily home computer as far as applications are concerned and was quite handy while surfing the Internet, working on simple office documents like MS Word/Excel, and opening multimedia applications. With 1 GB Armada M700 battery of RAM installed, multitasking was possible, if not a piece of cake.

The standard version comes equipped with a 3-cell Lithium-Ion battery which HP claims has 4 hours of battery backup when the hard disk is ON mode. I was able to get a total endurance of 2 hours and 32 minutes while the hard disk was running, which is not bad. But remember we have netbooks like the Asus Eee PC that have about 7 hours of battery backup. The user also has the option of choosing a 6-cell battery by paying a little more, but it only provides about half an hour more runtime.

Like all HP products this netbook also comes with a standard warranty of one year with 24 x 7 customer support online and via the phone.

Value for money Rating

Looking at the portability and performance it has to offer, HP Mini 2140 is fairly priced at $499.00. But there are other options that are to be kept in FRU 92P1121 battery mind like Acer Aspire One, Asus Eee PC, MSI Wind and many more, when you consider buying a netbook PC.

Conclusion Rating

The HP Mini 2140 has a great design to boast of and is a beautiful, sleek, compact; but solid netbook with a good configuration and great features. It is a workhorse as far as performance is concerned and is very fairly priced. I will ask my readers to give a definite look at this mini version of a PC when buying an ultra-compact notebook.
